Buddhism considers non-verbal consciousnesses, and freedom untied to a discursive consciousness… It also considers 'continuity' (rebirth) between different realms of existence (and notably between the animal realm and the human realm)… Here is a 16'53'' scientific video Frans de Waal: Moral behavior in animals which would support that these idea are not as incongruous as some might like to think.
