Many try to calm their mind, reduce restlessness, stop going round in circles... All the more so when they meditate.
Instead... Observe! What keeps popping up at the forefront of your attention is what's important to you now. You might question why it's important, you might question why it takes this particular expression (is the desire for a cup of tea, a desire for taste, heat, water? or even an affirmation of "being me" via some habit?), you might question why you tell yourself it "shouldn't" be so important that the idea keeps coming back, but do not pretend it's not there or that you don't have a judgement about its relevance!
Your mind is telling you what you need to work on (it rarely tells you how, or why, so you need to explore that... and regularly it's about the expectation rather than the phenomena); nobody else can give you such a useful information, so be grateful that your mind insists until you listen!
