"Buddhists say that life sucks — we just don’t realize it. How patronizing is that? And how absurd? After all, how would we know how miserable we were if things were never good?"
Such a naïve, superficial, biased, representation of the #Dharma ! Unfortunately, this is not the first time I hear variations of this… so let's make it short and sweet:

#Buddhism   says attachment, or clinging, is the source of suffering. And why do we cling? Because some things are pleasurable and we want to perpetuate the pleasure! We delude ourselves in thinking such a perpetuation 'forever' is possible "under the right circumstances" (this is the ignorance at the base of greed and aversion).

Summarising Buddhism to the first of the four Noble Truths only (badly digested) is 'patronising' and, yes, "life sucks" is absurd but this is not what Buddhists say… "Life is pleasurable" hardly sounds like "life sucks," does it?! If one really wants a one-sentence summary of Buddhism, it would more likely be "ignorance sucks"!
