When promoting patience, it is frequent to get a reaction such as "patience is not a virtue if your house is on fire."
I'd argue it actually is: leaving the building "in an orderly fashion" requires good control of self-centered fear and patience, notably when you feel that people in front of you are not moving "fast enough." That is when you distinguish the spiritual grown-up from the rest: someone who can think " our survival" rather than " me and my survival".
