New year celebrations

One day, one year;
the next day, a "new" year;
but every year it's the same:
   unsatisfactoriness? same,
   consumerism? same,
   ignorance? same,
   cycle? same.

Arbitrary lines in the sand?
   "new!" in continuously unfolding causality,
   "anniversary" in calendars,
   and "closest ones" among humanity.

Blinded by its uniqueness,
   fascinated by its "me, myself, mine",
   each point loses sight of the bigger picture.

#Buddhism
photo: "Buddha bar", Paris. The place offered a 'special' December 31st menu including not one but two animal-based dishes [just to make sure this is wasteful, therefore unwholesome, even if you think 'appropriate' meat-eating is acceptable]… but not to worry: a vegetarian menu was available too! I have a small doubt the party was "worth" €270, or that no wholesome cause could have benefitted from half the amount as a donation (even if the other half remained to party!).

   "Right effort" is a strong resolve to cease perpetuating the status quo, by having a hard and long look at mental fabrications and proliferations. The notions of "hip place" and commercial "landmark date" are as good starting points as any!

One might think the Buddha statue is hard to miss, but…
