Why is it that people perceive (other) meditators as being still, calm, quiet, peaceful? The internal perception is often more like a gigantic battle!
If you can imagine how you look externally while you're thus fighting in your head, then you might realise that all thoughts along the line "the other people on the cushions next to me surely are so much better meditators than I am" are non-sense; you might develop compassion for yourself as a practitioner; you might even see meditation is not about being peaceful and calm. The words "peace" or "quiet" are not to be found in "being here & now."
